Solar Batteries

Batteries

A battery can store energy for later use.

A battery is an electrical storage device. Batteries do not make electricity; they store it, just as a water tank stores water for future use.

Batteries come in different sizes and capacities. All batteries are rated / sized in amp-hours. An amp-hour is one amp for one hour, It is amps X hours.

When buying batteries a general rule is that cost relates to quality. You can buy cheap batteries for a solar system but they will have a shorter lifespan. The more expensive batteries have much longer lifespan and better lifecycles.

The size of battery you require depends on:
How much power is generated by the solar panels,
How much power is used and,
How long the system must be able to run on low light levels. (Little or no sun)

There are several different types of batteries available such as Lead-Acid, and nickel-cadmium.
Batteries are a key component in solar power systems; a solar panel generates electricity during the day. If there are batteries included in the system then you can store power until it is needed and can run appliances on a night.
